The Bleeding Control Basic (BCon) Course v. 1.0 is designed for individuals who have little or no medical training but who may be called upon as immediate responders to provide initial trauma care and bleeding control to a victim of traumatic injury prior to the arrival of emergency medical services (EMS) or in an austere environment.
Minutes count! Someone who is severely bleeding can bleed to death in as little as 5 minutes. That’s why bleeding control—keeping the blood inside the body—is the purpose of STOP THE BLEED® training.
How long is the STOP THE BLEED course?
Our STOP THE BLEED® courses last no more than 90 minutes. A formal presentation is followed by hands-on practice of applying direct pressure, packing a wound, and using a tourniquet to stop bleeding.
Who can attend a STOP THE BLEED course?
Any individuals who may be called upon to assist with trauma patients while waiting for first response or EMS to arrive. The course has been designed for students who have received little or no prior medical training. Examples of potential students include teachers, taxi drivers, train station attendants, and Transportation Security Administration (TSA) workers.
While the preferred course for educating law enforcement officers is the Tactical Casualty Care for Law Enforcement and First Responders (TCC-LEFR), the BCon materials may be used to introduce these concepts to law enforcement officers.
